15 Below: Jacket that can be stuffed with newspapers

Steve Mykolyn, Creative Director of TAXI, came up with The 15 Below Project—a jacket for the homeless.

The jacket is breathable, waterproof, lightweight, and the lining is made of pockets, yes pockets. These pockets can be stuffed with newspaper to provide adjustable levels of insulation from the cold.

“It’s a lifeline for people without homes. They’re a pretty low-cost, immediate way to address a huge issue,” said Paul Lavoie, co-founder, chairman, and chief creative officer of TAXI. “Our approach to solving problems – of any sort – has always been to question convention. This won’t eliminate homelessness, but it can make a lot of people more comfortable.”

Star Wars gets hoodie

Marc Ecko + Star Wars =?

Now I can walk around like my favorite Star Wars character—Boba Fett!

From Star Wars.com:
“Mixing street style with Star Wars iconography, noted fashion designer Marc Ecko has developed a new, limited-edition collection of Star Wars-inspired apparel under license from Lucasfilm Ltd. Making this the first time a major designer has teamed up with Lucasfilm, the line will be available this holiday season through top domestic and international specialty stores, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the ever-popular film saga.

Combining classic Star Wars imagery, concept art and characters with the style and artistic flair of street culture, the collection will feature such pieces as a premium “Fett for Real” sweatshirt, a stone Yoda graphic tee and the “Ultimate Vader” hoodie, among various other items. Many of the items are beaded, embroidered or feature extra embellishments that add to its fashion flair. Ecko also designed an authentic-style Hoth Parka as seen worn by Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back.

“It is no secret that I am a fanboy of all things Star Wars and of George Lucas,” Ecko says. “So when the opportunity to create this collection arose, I jumped on it like Boba on his bounty. Our mission was to dig into Lucasfilm’s archives and emerge with a line that takes its cues from popular culture and adds the rich visual language that made Star Wars the most relevant fable of the last 100 years.”

The youngest member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s board of directors, Ecko is also founder of *ecko unltd., the world famous rhino brand. Since its creation in 1993, the group of companies that comprise Marc Ecko Enterprises has grown to include: *ecko unltd. men’s and Red by Marc Ecko juniors apparel, as well as outerwear, footwear, watches, eyewear, belts, bags, and more. Marc Ecko Enterprises also includes Marc Ecko “Cut & Sew” (a contemporary menswear line launched Fall 2004); G-Unit clothing and accessories (a joint venture with multi-platinum musician, 50 Cent); Zoo York (a line of action sports-inspired clothing and accessories); and Avirex (a mid-tier brand launched Spring 2005).”
