Scraper bike ride

Scraper bike ride through Oakland. [Via Oaklandish].

Scraper bikes were born in the streets of Oakland, invented by Tyrone “Big Champ” Stevenson.

“Champ could build a bike more easily than the average person could put together an Ikea nightstand. Then he got the idea of improving on the vehicle’s design in homage to the candy-colored Oldsmobile “scrapers” he’d see rolling through his neighborhood in East Oakland. He began adding 22-inch or 26-inch rims, gold aluminum foil (meant to resemble the “spinners” on scraper car wheels), and bright, electric paintjobs.” [Via Eastbay Express].

Operation Repo – Matt Gets Attacked

“The bread and butter for Spanish-language TV is telenovelas. Soap operas are so big in Los Angeles that they often get bigger ratings than their English-language cousins. A reposessor is bucking that trend with a reality show in Spanish.” [Via NPR]
