Bishop’s Finger
Oh so classy ads get the Finger in England.
From the BBC.
Bishops Finger ad too near the knuckle.
Brewer Shepherd Neame has been warned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over a print advert that featured the headline “I love a good session on the Bishops Finger.”
The advert, for Bishops Finger Kentish Ale, featured a woman in a low-cut medieval costume sitting provocatively on a bale of hay. Underneath the headline, an image of the product was displayed with the text “At 5.4 per cent, it’s near the knuckle.”
A single complainant felt the advert was demeaning to women. Although the ASA decided that the advert was unlikely to cause widespread offence to women, the watchdog ruled that it appeared to link alcohol with sexual activity, a practice that is barred under its guidelines.
